Amazon Software Dev Engineer I (SDE-1)

Eligibility Criteria

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field.
• Strong computer science fundamentals in object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Java, C++, C#, or Python.
• Freshers or early-career candidates graduating in 2025/2026 or recent university graduates.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve software applications and distributed systems.
• Manage individual project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables using Agile/Scrum methodologies.
• Write clean, maintainable, efficient, and well-tested code following software development best practices.
• Participate in design and code reviews to maintain high quality and security engineering standards.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features for global customers.

Selection Process / Rounds / Tests

Round 1: Online Assessment — Details: Coding test evaluating problem-solving and algorithmic skills | Topics: Data structures, Algorithms, Complexity analysis, Coding (C/C++/Python/Java/Perl) | Mode: Online | Purpose: Filter candidates based on coding and logical skills

Round 2: Technical Interview 1 — Details: Focus on data structures, algorithms, and coding | Topics: Object-oriented design, Algorithm design, Data structures, Problem-solving, Complexity analysis | Mode: Online / In-person | Purpose: Assess core computer science fundamentals

Round 3: Technical Interview 2 — Details: Focus on system design, distributed systems, and scalability | Topics: Distributed systems, Multi-tiered systems, Relational databases, Scalability, Fault tolerance | Mode: Online / In-person | Purpose: Evaluate ability to design large-scale systems

Round 4: Behavioral Interview — Details: Assess leadership principles, customer obsession, and cultural fit | Topics: Amazon Leadership Principles, Customer obsession, Ownership, Innovation | Mode: Online / In-person | Purpose: Evaluate alignment with Amazon's culture and values

Preferred Skills & Educational Requirements

• Previous technical internship(s).
• Experience with distributed, multi-tiered systems, algorithms, and relational databases.
• Experience in optimization mathematics.
• Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field (2025/2026 graduates).
